It's really easy to get started with HyperJar.
Download the app on your phone and follow the setup instructions for your account. Once you are registered you can order your HyperJar Prepaid Mastercard, which takes about a week to arrive.
1. Think about your everyday spending.
How much goes on food, bills, nights out and hobbies or towards longer-term plans, like holidays and Christmas?
From your Home screen, create a few Jars to reflect these categories by tapping the + button. Name them anything you like, so they fit your own spending patterns and plans
2. Transfer some money from your bank to your HyperJar account.
First, tap on your Account tab to see your sort code and account number. Use these details to make a payment from your bank to your new HyperJar account.
Transfer payments are usually available almost immediately, although they can sometimes take up to two hours to arrive in your Wallet. You can then divide it between the Jars to reflect how you want to spend it, and maybe leave a small balance in your Wallet.
3. Take a look at our Partners in the Offers tab
You’ll see our Partners on the Explore screens, from Shell and Dyson to Virgin Wines, blow LTD, Kano kids computers and lots more. You can Favourite them, which means you’ll see their logo on your Home screen and any offers and incentives they’re running. Or, if you know you want to spend with them in the future, choose to commit money upfront and start getting a 4.8% Annual Growth Rate on everything you pay in and added to your Jar daily.
Once you have done the basics, here’s what you do next:
4. Spending from Jars
You can spend directly from any Jar by linking it to your card before you spend. Just tap on the Jar, press Link, and that Jar will now be where your money comes from when you use your card and a card icon will show inside Jar.
If you’re spending with one of our partners and you have HMoney with them in a Jar, the HMoney gets spent first automatically. If you don’t have enough HMoney to cover the cost, it will dip into any cash you have in the Jar to make up the difference.
If you spend more than you have in your Jar, any extra money will come out of your Wallet. And if there's not enough in the Wallet to cover the spending, the transaction won't go through: you can never be overdrawn with HyperJar.
5. Shared Jars
A lot of our budgeting, planning and spending is done with other people. Shared bills, group holidays, joint presents or just a night out with friends. A Shared Jar works like a pop-up joint account for 2 - 100 people, with none of the hassle or commitment.
Tap on a Jar, press Invite, and you can add others by Bluetooth or scanning a QR code if they're nearby, or from your Contacts. If you're the Shared Jar Owner, you set the permissions for other people: who can pay in, spend from, and see the Jar. You can also leave Notes for each other in a Shared Jar: "Hey guys - spent £20 on food but forgot ketchup...''.
If someone else invites you to share a Shared Jar, they set the permissions, so make sure you're OK with these before putting any money in.
6. Buying HMoney
In the Offers tab, you'll find all the shops, brands and businesses that we have partnered with. If you prepay with one of them - like Shell or Virgin Wines - you'll get an inflation-beating 4.8% Annual Growth Rate on the balance you've paid in. This is calculated daily and added to whichever Jar this HMoney sits. You can mix different HMoney in the same Jar. So you might have a Christmas Jar, with £50 notonthehighstreet, £50 Feelunique and £50 Shell and put a bit of budgeting money in there to spend on bits and pieces. All the HMoney grows until you spend it.
